Night Thirteen at court

Posted in NPC Stuff, Story Stuff on April 22nd, 2005 by enwewn

At the court location, the Natural History Museum, the whole of the Kindred population arrive slowly, with a few surprises in the crowd and on stage. On stage, is Bishop Coverstone, seated at his position. Within the crowd, stirs Jacob, with Jeff trailing behind. Enos is in a balcony overlooking the proceedings, with a distrustful look to him. This is not his normal manifestation of menace. While all are gathered here, many are not at ease. Still, they are all staying respectful of the proceedings. As the last few are announced and enter the court proper, everyone begins to take seats and start the night’s business. With the announcement that the court is now in order, Vern appears on stage, with a smug look that worries many in the audience.

Vern steps to the center of the stage without stopping at the primogen council’s table – an unusual event. Vern raises his hand to quiet what noise this made and waits for silence to cover the crowd.
Vern begins, “With the events of the past year, I have been making every effort to rule this city without the harsh measures of the former leader.” This gives rise to many quick glances at Jacob, as he was not an over-zealous leader. Vern continues, “As I have not been able to quell the turbulence in this time, with a soft hand, caused by his sudden departure, stronger measures will now be used. The sheriff has been informed, that by the end of a weeks time, NO unaligned kindred are to be within my city, be that by them leaving, or becoming members of the Invictus, LS, or, if need be, the Order Dracul. If any remain at the end of this time, Blood Hunts are their fate. By the end of one month’s time all Carthians are also to have left or been converted, or suffer the same.” This makes a stir in the crowd, which was quelled only by the fact that Bishop Coverstone had broken the council’s table and was now standing with a power that left a few kindred in the room quaking. This took Vern by some surprise, as Derrick was not one too show this amount of disrespect. Vern continues “I have been forced to do this, by recent actions taken against me, and all of us. With the recent attack on my personal property and now with last night’s attack on the elysium, I have no choice.” Derrick, in a voice that filled the hall announces, “All will be welcomed at “The Orphanage” and NO kindred, be he prince or archbishop will ever change this.” Vern immediately pronounces him an outcast and no longer fit to lead the LS or be on the primogen council. Derrick responded to this by throwing the pieces of the table left in his hands toward Vern and storming out of the court, taking many of his fellow LS with him. The crowd, becoming pandemonium, sees that Vern is still on stage, holding up his hand and looking for quiet. Many younger kindred within the hall start to shout, the blood within them starting to boil in rage. The elders within the walls are finding their way out, with whatever speed they have at their disposal. They do not want to risk any lingering in the hall. Donald, having all of his brood close to the stage, leads them out of the hall and into a waiting limousine. Robert takes the hands of Victoria and Daise, leading them out to a waiting car. Dianna throws her arm around Paul’s neck and drags him to the waiting limousine. Hannah, having seen enough school yard fights to know that once they are this big, the only thing to do is not to get hurt by them and finds a back way out to an alley. Hugh knows that Stacey does not have the strength or wits to do well in that environment pulls her out of the melee, protecting her all the way, and heads for the safety of the “Shit Hole”. James seeing his sire, Judy, on the stage makes his way there, once together they head out of the hall with a small contingent of carthians with them. Gracey, knowing what can happen if caught in the middle of a brawl like this, grabs onto Sarah and they push their way out of the hall and onto the street. They make a break for it, moving 3 blocks away before hailing a cab, to take them anywhere else.

Denizens

Posted in NPC Stuff, Other Stuff, Story Stuff on April 20th, 2005 by enwewn

In the larger cities of the world, there are many denizens of the night, crowding the streets. What few are listed here are but simple examples…

We with in the Darkness Unvailed playgroup have started to play the new Vampire: the Requiem from White Wolf. With this new game, there came a need for a new setting and new NPCs… I, as the storyteller for the game, have made an effort to get a short write-up on all of the NPCs up for my players and others to reference on-line; to better get the feel of what I have going on, in my head. It also reminds me of what train of thought I was on when I thought of them in the first place. As we continue to play, I will add to the list and work on fleshing out the ones that are already there. As I am not the most prolific writer or idea maker, it will take some time. If you see an NPC that you would like to know more about, drop a note here. Also, if you see one that is on the working list, but not up, give it your try to make their background.

Victoria Trammel

Posted in Character Stuff, Looking Back in Time, Sire Relations on April 18th, 2005 by Victoria

My name is Victoria Trammel and this is my story. Well part of it anyway. I was raised by my Aunt Judy and Uncle Charlie in Charleston. My parents died in a car crash in Switzerland when I was a few months old. They had left me in the care of my aunt and uncle that year. Dad was driving when he lost control of the car and sent them plummeting to their deaths at the bottom of a mountain.
Judy doesn’t talk much about it, because my mother was her favorite baby sister. The other sister, Daise, is a black sheep and so Judy doesn’t talk about her either. I did find an old picture of Daise in Judy’s things. She looked beautiful. I envied her being able to get away from here and see new things.
I was an only child and so was doted upon but never spoiled. I strove to be the best in my class so I could follow Daise’s footsteps and get out of this town. I wanted to travel the world. When I was done with high school I went to Yale and got a doctorate in business. I figured that would be helpful to my goal.
A couple of years after I started working in my uncle’s consulting firm he retired and turned over the business to me. Oh how I hated him that day. He had effectively shut down all my plans to travel. I was stuck running the business. When I confronted him he just looked at me with eyes full of innocence and told me that I was the only one he could trust to not run the business into the ground. My relationship with Judy and Charlie grew distant as I threw myself into work to keep from killing someone.
I seemed to have an instinct for knowing when to sell and when to hold, so make money I did. The employees started joking about magic and witches telling me about the investments, but I paid them little heed as I tried to figure out how to get out of this town. I got the idea to expand my business and so set about trying to figure out good locations. I knew that I would have to run each new office for about 6 months to make sure it was not going to collapse so my dreams of leaving Charleston would come true at last. Over the next few years I opened offices in San Francisco, Seattle, Austin, Tampa, Denver, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Chicago and New York.
It was while I was in Chicago that I ran into Daise. Well to tell the truth, she hunted me down. She was standing outside my building one night when I got off work. She invited me for a couple of drinks to catch up. I told her I would meet her at the bar and went back to my hotel to change. I got to the bar and went inside. It was dark, but quieter than most bars. It seemed to me the kind of place people did serious drinking, without a lot to distract them. I spotted my aunt at a table and walked over. On my way I saw several couples making out. It seemed that everyone was having a neck nuzzled by someone else and I felt myself blushing.
I got to the table and sat down and my aunt pushed a drink towards me. I took a sip while waiting for her to speak. We talked long into the night and I told her about my business. She suggested New York for my next office. She even knew someone who could help me get started. I liked the idea from the start. I had been told that New York had everything and it sounded perfect.
I told her it would be about a month before I could leave the Chicago area. She laughed and said that time was of no importance. I glanced at my watch and realized it was 4am. I told her I had to go and stood up. She said that she would find me again before I left town to make arrangements. I agreed and headed towards the door calling a cab on my cell phone.
A week before I could leave, Daise found me again and gave me the name of a bar in New York that I could find her when I arrived. I asked her to fly with me and she said that she had her own arrangements and just to meet her at the bar in ten days at midnight.
After I got everything taken care of in Chicago I flew out to New York and checked into a hotel. That first night I slept like a baby. The next day I headed around trying to find a place to set up office. I worked day and night, but couldn’t find a good spot. The night I was supposed to meet with Daise came and so I went to the bar. My aunt walked in and sat down at the table. I asked where the guy I was supposed to meet was and she said he would be in tomorrow night at midnight. She told me to be here then she got up and left. I stared after her in surprised that she would be so rude. I had second thoughts at that time, but I was having such a hard time finding a place that I figured it couldn’t hurt to meet this guy at least.
The next night I was seated in the back corner of the bar when I saw them walk in. My aunt pointed at me and then left. The guy started walking towards me. Watching him move towards my table I was reminded of a predator stalking its prey and I shivered. When he got to the table he sat down across from me. He had the most striking eyes I had ever seen. When I met his gaze it was as if he could read my every thought and was gazing right into my soul.
“So you’re Victoria”

Rudolph Antal

Posted in NPC Stuff on April 18th, 2005 by enwewn

Though enforcement falls upon others in the city, Rudolph gets answers anytime he asks for them. As one of the more powerful within the LS, he has always been highly respected by others. The LS is often in need of answers that others do not want to give and sometimes more then a little persuasion is needed. This is where Rudolph shines. Having been doing this work for many decades, he is good at it. Though, with Vern taking power, he has seen an increase in his business and that is troubling to him. It’s not that he minds the extra work, but he does not like to waste time with things he believes are beneath him.

Minth Nosferatu Invictus

Posted in NPC Stuff on April 13th, 2005 by enwewn

In exchange for a little information, Marvin had given Minth a place to hunt and hide. This was a few years ago and Minth still calls this park “home”. He keeps the place clear of stray animals and reports to Marvin once a week. Having this place mostly to himself, he enjoys watching the people who visit.
About six months ago a new face in the crowd caught his attention. She was a fresh vampire, not yet sure of the new world around her. Normally, if some one like this came into his park, he would just ask them to leave and then report the incident to Marvin, but this time it was different for him. As he watched, he didn’t see any indication that she had come here to feed. It was as if she was just walking the park like many of the mortals do. After being shut out from most of his kind, due to that little bit of information he had given Marvin, he felt it was time to make a friend. That’s is indeed what happened. Over the next few months, they started to talk with one another and found a common feeling of loneliness. She is, so far, the only vampire in his park that Marvin does not know about.

Marvin Mekhat Invictus

Posted in NPC Stuff on April 13th, 2005 by enwewn

In playing the game, Marvin has been well rounded with what he has gone after. He has been able to capture control over most of the parks in the city and all of the airports. If a vampire wants to fly in or out of the city, Marvin must been in the loop. His control of the parks affords him the right to grant feeding privileges to those he chooses and that gives him a bargaining chip in almost any negotiation. He continues to strengthen his hold on these areas by making sure that no one breaks his rules. Having this vast amount of responsibility throughout the city, is not easy and takes most of his time every night. He has given in to the fact that he will never get all of the land in the city, but he does love the challenge of working towards that goal. All work and no play isn’t good for anyone especially a kindred, so he takes a night off every month to go and see the sights he controls, incognito. This night is not something he shares with anyone as it is the one time he doesn’t take his guards with.

Updated beta NPC

Posted in NPC Stuff on April 11th, 2005 by enwewn

These are not finished but they have been through a spell checker and may be more readable.

Derrick Coverstone Gangrel LS
Derrick having had a long time to build up his defenses and control in Brooklyn there are very few kindred that will challenge him here. With this great amount of control has come the responsibility to keep it also, as others keep trying to pry this area a way from him. He has been able to make many “friends” with the ability to give gifts, such as feeding rights, small safe havens, and The Orphanage. The Orphanage was put in place to keep balance with in the city as many travel through and do not always clean up after themselves. As in many of the darker times within the city, the kine have also made many a kindred homeless with there indirect influence on the kindred. Though few of such incidents have ever been link to involvement by kindred there is always suspicions running around, with Derrick pointed to in most cases. With in the walls of the Orphanage there are many Kindred and kine alike. The kine know of the kindred presence and a few kine owe them their lives, but many owe them their soles. Derrick preaches nightly to all that stay with in the walls, though not all listen as much as he would like. He is content with his domain and all of the responsibilities that it in tails.

Dalia Preston Nosferatu Carthian
Though still a member of the Carthian movement Dalia has made good with the new prince. She holds little sway over the rest of the movement, but can give Vern insights into the working of the cause. Many in the movement have begun to distrust her as much of what she knows tens to find its way to Vern. This has made her more of an outsider then she was to begin with and has made her less of an asset to Vern, who is trying to see if converting her maybe possible. Time will tell for her as she keeps moving through the night.

Dalia Pestage Ventrue LS
Although making money is not the prime focus of the LS it is something that is needed to keep the faith moving onto larger and larger scales. Vern knows that he needs the money, but knows not were to get it. This is where Dalia came into his unlife. With a little guidance she has made sizable in road into the markets and has proven that she knows what she is doing. To keep her from going to far Vern took her in and put her under his wing. (His thumb is more like it.) She has enjoyed the rise in power along with Vern, but has started to see what little she has to show for it. She feels the needs to start to see the credit that she deserves to continue to help Vern in has plans.

Carman Oster Ventrue LS
Carman has worked with Vern closely for many years and now with him in power she sees her opportunities on the rise. Having be a faithful follower she has earned respect among many with in the LS and those who don’t respect her have a small fear growing inside of them that she will soon be able to control too much of their unlives. She earns her respect, not though direct action, but though her ability to have other do what she wants to have done. She has gained greatly in the past year as Vern having used her services a few times before wants to repay those debts to her. The best part of many of these gains is they seem not to help her at all and mostly would seem to be burden to outsiders. Carman though sees the real power in all of these burdens and feels that her faith in Vern was not misplaced.

Andrew Mills Nosferatu Carthian
As one of the more powerful in the Carthian movement Andrew was a thorn in the side of Prince Jacob, thou they had grown over time to see the benefits of one another. Andrew was always pushing for change with in the city and had gotten many connections from Jacob though he was not always liked by the Carthians for his method of getting these changes, as he has mostly leveraged his control over the docks to get these. After Vern took over, he start to roll back many of the changes that Jacob had set forth. This has not set well with Andrew or many of the Carthians. Moves are in the planning stages to see that things do not continue along these lines. If Vern persists in his push, Andrew well see to it that more things go wrong for Vern then just losing his position in leadership.

Amelia Mansel Ventrue Ordo Dracul
As the leader of the Order in the city she has many enemies to over come. The newest she has added to this list is Vern Sanghani, the new prince. Though taking power with a whimper more then a roar he is trying to cement his position. Amelia having liked the old prince for his vision and easy and even hand in running the city, has made it a goal of hers to root out all those who made it possible for Vern to become prince. Amelia having grown up in Ireland she knows what a zealot like Vern can do when given that much power. Over the past year she has been making moves that have kept Vern from using the power that he now should enjoy. Others have been helpful in this effort and wish to see the fall of Vern.

NPC mortal affairs

Posted in NPC Stuff on March 28th, 2005 by Hugh

Just a reminder to the storyteller that I would like more info on the mortal affairs of the NPC’s. I would like to know what profession Jacob and Vern are in and the like. I think it would be helpful to have a “family tree” or “chain of command” listing for them, and maybe an outline on them. Hugh is interested in causing more mischief and needs more room to operate. He’s not quite strong enough to attack Vern directly, so he must explore other avenues to attack him indirectly; at the heart of his business, (do I dare say) “loved”ones, financially, or at the bottom of the rope of affiliates and work his way up.
If Hugh would not know this information, I need help in finding ways to gather it.

Night Ten Preface Hugh

Posted in Character Stuff, Sire Relations, Story Stuff on March 2nd, 2005 by enwewn

You awake to find your sire in your place. After she notices that you are awake she just starts to ramble about how this is all Jacob’s fault, if he would have been stronger, more watchful, stopped Vern when he had the chance, not let that happen to Joan and now to Thomas, should have stopped it, should have been able to do something, will you help her do something, I need your kind of help right now. None of it make much sense, but she has been a good sire, so there is no reason not to.

Night Ten Preface Gracey

Posted in Character Stuff, Sire Relations, Story Stuff on March 2nd, 2005 by enwewn

You awake to find yourself and Sarah in a small room that doesn’t look at all familiar to either of you. The walls appear to be steel as is the door. A small camera in the corner and a speaker on the ceiling seem to be the only other things in the room. You hear a voice come over the speaker, “Now that you are both awake maybe one of you can tell me how you managed to have some of my files in your procession.”

You find yourself waking on the couch in Judy’s office. Judy is behind her desk peering at you as you awake. “So you have made some friends I see.” “Your gallivanting around this city has been interesting to watch.” “Do you even know what to do next, have you any clue what has been happening around you?” “With all of your resent travels have you stopped to notice that Vern is trying to push us all out of the city, or are your new friends just that much more important.”

Night Ten Preface Paul

You awake in your study, but not in the position that you are used to being in. As the master of this domain you are not the one who should be chained to the wall. The one bad part of this is knowing that these chains can take anything you mite try to do to them. Dianna has out one of your more favorite toys, a ten foot long whip. As you hear the first crack in the air by you head you remember that she does know how to use it. “This past week you have been causing more trouble then normal.” “You have started to lead some other down a path that they should not take as they have at lest shown some respect to their sires.” “Are your just trying to have me removed from what I have worked so hard to get?” “Are you trying to corrupt even more to your ill-conceived movement?” “Or do I just need to convince you that the Invictus is were you belong.”

You awake to find yourself not in your normal resting place, but in a storage room at one of Donald’s clubs just not sure which one. Donald is sitting on a chair in front of the door out. You feel the other two vampires that are just outside the door. The music from the club seems to be quite, so the walls in this room are almost certainly to thick to get through fast enough to get out of here. Donald asks, “What kind of plans do you have for your near future?” “Ever since that meeting last week you seem to be running away from same thing, or have you been trying to get to some thing.”

Letter to the Prince

Posted in Down Time Info, NPC Stuff, Sire Relations on March 1st, 2005 by enwewn

To Your Holiness:

After the discovery that the sanctified holding cell had been found the only thing left to do was to take drastic measures. Though the tank was mostly empty setting it off made a big enough bang to level that part of the warehouse. The ensuing fire would make finding anything a challenge for the police. In this town that means little would be done about it. They just had to be careful not to let the fire get out of control. The poor sap that got caught in the blaze did not chance to get out, nor was he in any shape to. The damage done to the warehouse was minimal and was mostly in the office are, good thing all those records were backed up off site. The rebuilding cost will be small, but it is the price we pay for not making sure our sites are still secure for use. We still do not have any leads as to who found the site as there were very few who even know of its existence we should be able to narrow it down soon. As this step was taken in such haste we have not had time to make the normal arrangements with our day time friends though they will undoubtedly do the right thing as soon as they see the signals that we left for them. It is to bad that we learned so little from the traitor before this had to happen. We had hope to make an example of him and the next “Service”.

Thomas Huntley Rev. 2

Posted in Character Stuff, NPC Stuff, Sire Relations on February 7th, 2005 by enwewn

Mekhat Invictus

Thomas finds himself using the time that he has been given to indulge in what ever project that currently hold his fascination. He has always searched for the truth in religion as he holds that there must be something greater out there. He has already been proven right once in his life when he was brought into the darkness. Spending all of his time within books has had some draw backs as he does get much respect from those around him and with the error of bring Hannah over he has had to try twice as hard to show his usefulness to the new order in New York so as to keep himself and her safe. This has lead him to make some very bad deals with the “wrong” crowd. This is not the first time this has happen to Thomas as for a long time he was a member of the Carthian Movement and only left after he found that the movement would no longer let him look into what his heart really wanted. The Invictus leader at the time told him that this was the main problem with those rebels; they could never chose a direction and stay with it. This made Thomas uneasy with them and started the move to the Invictus for him. Those shortly after her left the Carthians he found that the rules of the Invictus were harder to follow but at lest they did not change decade to decade. Though this move left him with out much support in the city it also left his estranged from his only other passion Stacy. He had brought her of into the night a short time after himself to have some to share his thoughts with and help him move forward in his research. They did have many years in which they both flourished, he had to keep moving in on his goals and she got more and more into the movement.

Christian and Donald in the Past

Posted in As Time Goes By, Character Stuff, Looking Back in Time, NPC Stuff, Sire Relations on January 19th, 2005 by enwewn

Donald has become fond for Christian’s little trips out to the local bars. He sees the potential in the contacts that he makes there, but he wishes that Christian would forget about his old life as it seems to be holding him back from the bigger things. Though Christian has taken to the Invictus, he does not seem to be a fervent member. The first year has gone by now and he doesn’t seem to have moved on that far. The more time he spends in these places the less time Donald has to show him the business. This may start to be a problem if he does not find a spot in the business he will not have anything to stand on while Donald is away, but being young and unconcerned with the long time ahead. That is very attractive way of “living.” Christian has not always seemed to be such a good choice for Donald. Christian when he first was brought over, wanted to go back to his old life and try to keep others from finding out. He is after all, the owner, so if he sleeps all day and is working all night no one would get suspicious of him. That was Donald’s first hurtle, to show him that going back was not a wise idea. Christian got the message, but still missed all of the interaction that being in a bar gave him. Now he is a frequent visitor to many of the clubs that Donald owns. Donald was not sure about Christian doing this until Christian started to make suggestions about how to make the places bring in more people. After that Donald saw that Christian was going to be useful and tried to make watching over the club Christian’s job. Christian was not going to have that as he already knows it loses it appeal after it became that only thing in your life. Donald continued to look for a place for Christian in his business and still does not know were to fit him in. Without knowing were to place Christian, Donald does not want to give him too much access to the rest of the business.

Knowing that the New Prince was going to be trouble from the start, Donald and Robert had made a few moves to ensure that he did gain the power that should go with the office. Riley and Reed had been keeping an eye on things that Donald and Robert couldn’t be seen watching. Riley and Reed had just started to make their report when someone entered the warehouse. This was supposed to be a “safe” place to meet up, where no-one would know that they all were talking to each other. After controlling the flash of anger that came over them and with a little more calm, they all went over to find out who could have discovered them. Before they even came into site of the newcomers, Donald and Robert knew that this was not going to be as big of a problem as they first thought it may be. Setting the plan quickly and quietly, they jump the intruders, leaving only Christian standing without someone keep him in place. The one who must have led them here was flat on her back and told to stay there. Whether it was the Dominate or just her sire giving the order Victoria never even tried to get back up. Donald decided to give Paul a little “hug” to remind him that, though he spurns his sire and the Invictus, not everyone is willing to let him goof off with the Charthians forever. Now that we have them, lets find out what brought them here, though Robert thinks he already knows. After a few questions and a little more pain for Paul, they get something a little unexpected. It seems that Dianna wants to move up a little farther while getting in the new prince’s “good graces”, and sent these punks to do the dirty work for her. Well, that explains why, after the little disturbance at the meeting, which we sent them to, they all started to go off together. Rummaging through all of the files and taking some was probably a foolish idea, but it does give them some information that may help them survive if they continue down this path. Though, in sending them on their way, we do tell them to drop this little exploit of theirs. After they leave, it is back to the business at hand with a new outlook at the information that they already had.

Mekhat Charthian

Judy clawed her way up fast as the youngest covenant leader in the city. She had to earn the respect of many kindred in the city and she has, as much as any carthain could in this city. The old prince was not letting the movement move, so a little passing of information to take him down a peg shouldn’t have been so bad. The new prince, though, has turned into her worst nightmare and she is working hard to keep any more of it from becoming reality. Her gift for her favor to the new prince was nice, but hasn’t had the effect that she had hoped for, and with so many other new kindred around, it is hard to see if he is getting anywhere.

Paul found this beauty one night on the town and his path was set. Of course, she was just out for a drink. Paul caught her off guard with his good looks and relentless style. Slipping into his mind, she found that he had more usefulness than a one night toy. So, knowing that he could help move things along, she took the risk and showed him what real cruelty is. Shortly after the change of leadership took place in the city, a favor was repaid, making them safe. She takes care of his needs and he lets her live a little more. Though they both “see” other people, it is mostly to show up and hurt each other

Thomas Huntley

Mekhat Invictus

Thomas finds himself using the time that he has been given, to indulge in whatever project that currently holds his fascination. He has always searched for the truth in religion as he holds that there must be something greater out there. He has already been proven right once in his life when he was brought into the darkness. Spending all of his time within books has had some drawbacks – he doesn’t get much respect from those around him and with the error of bring Hannah over, he’s had to try twice as hard to show his usefulness to the new Order in New York so as to keep himself and her safe. This had led him to make some very bad deals with the “wrong” crowd.
